What if you were asked, “Would you like to be delivered?” Your first response would be, “Absolutely!” But what if being delivered meant a lack of faith on your part? The prosperity prophet would rail, “Not accepting deliverance is a lack of faith!” And then he/she would add, “As your faith is so be it unto you!” No doubt the Bible is full of examples of how deliverance was wrought in the power of a living faith. Hebrews 11 is a great narrative of people who were delivered by faith! It is in that eleventh chapter of Hebrews that Pastor Parrish takes his text, “…and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance… (Hebrews 11:35). The Message puts this scripture in these terms, “There were those who, under torture, refused to give in and go free, preferring something better: resurrection.” So why did they refuse? It has four movements and like any song the performance of the complete work requires all the movements to be performed in succession.
